Today is Ash Wednesday which is the start of Lent. I have often toyed with the concept of Lent but not taken it very seriously. When I was in my early 20's a girlfriend and I would nominate something to give up that we never really had anyway - a cheats way to make a sacrifice for Jesus. Today when I told my husband and Father-in-law that it was Lent my FIL joked that he's going to 'give up giving up things'.
This year I am taking a challenge inspired by Memories on Clover Lane a gorgeous blog you should definitely check out. This house proud mum is purging 40 bags in 40 days.
When I told a friend that today she was a bit taken aback - 40 bags is a lot. I still think I can do it.
I'm going to use plastic shopping bags which are smaller than say a regular garbage bag. I have recently done a great deal of spring cleaning but I am convinced there is still 40 bags of excess stuff in our lives. I haven't planned it out exactly but I do plan on targeting every room and I also plan to discard some 'cyber' rubbish'. Let's just say my computer filing system is not pretty and my desktop is a disaster.
As I've been sick over the last week today Noah and I are going to start with a bit of a cheats bag and rake up all the bougainvillea debris in the yard. Easy on the brain and I think I can convince Noah to do most of the work.
Why don't you join me it'll be fun and imagine how organised your house will be come that lovely 5 day Easter break. One bag a day is pretty manageable.

Hmmm, you know, I just may do that! We'll be moving soon and I might as well start with the throwing away now!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound manageable. Good luck with it! Think I might quietly join you too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It sounds manageable, I mean it's only a bag a day, right? I hope you keep us posted with your progress..!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a mission.
ReplyDeleteWe recently moved and so had a clean-out before the removalists came - but of course once it all turned up at the new place we still chucked more out! Might have saved us some money if we'd been as ruthless when packing.
If I was allowed to get my hands on my husband's gear I could probably fill 40 wool packs.
Good luck with the project - I'm sure the purging and organising will pay off well before 40 days are up.
Wow that's such a great idea! I'm sure you can find 40 bags of stuff, it's amazing how quickly it all adds up. Thanks for linking up to FYBF!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Giving up chocolate was never going to happen for me given my pregnant state. This sounds brilliant!
